I have directed, produced, sound designed, and mixed many audiobooks over the last five years. Most of them have been fiction for middle grade or young adult, but I have also recorded several non-fiction books for National Geographic. There have been some big hits on the list, including Alexandra Bracken’s “Lore” and Rick Riordan’s “Daughter of the Deep”. But the majority have been Star Wars audiobooks, many taking place during the High Republic timeline.
My favorite aspect of the Star Wars audiobooks is that they have a full sound design and music soundtrack in addition to the dialog. This is a time-consuming but worthwhile process. You can read an article I wrote on the topic for Barnes and Noble here.
My freelance audiobook production business includes casting, directing, dialog editing/mastering, QC, and final preparation of files for distribution services. It is a black box to the client, where the manuscript, character notes narrator preferences and pronunciation guides go into the box, and a high-quality audiobook comes out the other end.
